The Canary Islands are a popular destination during the winter. The temperatures reach around 24 degrees (Tenerife and Lanzarote). From January 4th to January 20th, we visited Lanzarote for the first time. Some people believe that Tenerife is more interesting because it has more things to do, however I disagree completely. Here are the things we've done in two weeks. Before you say "this isn't much to do in 2 weeks", I would like you to know that the first week was our "Lazy week", we only chilled, shopped and ate!
Things to do in Lanzarote:
Texas Ranch (C. Alcalde Cabrera Torres, s/n, 35510 Puerto del Carmen, Las Palmas, Spain))

A zoo combined with a water park is a perfect place to visit, especially for families. There are many animals that I haven't seen at any other zoo in Europe, and the overall setup is not confusing to walk around. The signs are clear, and the maps are easy to navigate. There are also many animal shows like dolphin shows, etc. The shows were beautiful and very interesting. The water parks have many different pools and water slides. Please remember that in January the pools were freezing! It was still nice to sit around and enjoy the sun. There were many other attractions like kayaking and gold hunt. There was a spot with rocks in the water; some were painted gold. The golden rocks could then be exchanged for free prizes from the store. We were lucky to get one from some other tourists, and another one was found by my husband. There were plenty of restaurants at the ranch to choose from, so there weren't many queues for the food.
Arrecife city
Arrecife is such a beautiful city. You can easily spend the entire day walking around the city. There is the Arrecife History Museum, which is free of charge. There are workers telling people about the place before the entrance, and then you can walk around and have a look. Unfortunately, there was not much going on, so I wouldn't make this place a priority, and if you don't have much time, skip it. What's good to know is that there is a hidden beach just behind the museum. There were not many people around, and you could walk on the rocks and look at some crabs, etc. We stayed in Arrecife for a week, and I'm glad we did. I have recommended some restaurants and cocktail spots below.
Jameos del Agua (LZ 204, Parcela 109, Carretera Arrieta - Órzola S/N Lanzarote, LZ-204, 109, 35542 Punta Mujeres, Las Palmas, Spain)
This place is really interesting and beautifully designed. Side note: you probably need a car to get there. You can rent one at the airport. You can find there white crabs and take many beautiful photos.
Aquarium (Centro Comercial El Trébol, C. las Acacias, s/n, 35508 Costa Teguise, Las Palmas, Spain)
This aquarium is not so big, but one of the workers told us many interesting stories about the animals, so overall it was worth going on that day.
Spend a day on the beach
There are so many beaches around. They are all great and quiet. They are also sandy beaches and not black rock like in Tenerife. So once you arrive, look on the map and go to the nearby beach.
Visit the closest to your hotel and go shopping!
There are plenty of small towns that are worth visiting. We have been to so many and didn't regrete spending time in any of them. Remember that perfumes and other cosmetics are so much cheaper so make sure to get some while you are there. :)
Restaurants:
The list is short because we repeated the same restaurants over and over again. There were also a couple of restaurants that we didn't enjoy because the food was plain or the staff was rude. My tip before picking a restaurant is to read the reviews on Google! The reviews are extremely accurate. Here is a short list of restaurants that we did enjoy a lot!
Estrella Del Charco - Arrecife (Av. César Manrique, 9, 35500, Arrecife, Lanzarote Spain)
We have dined at this restaurant I cannot even tell you how many times! It was our favouriote and we went back every day either for lunch or dinner. In the end, when the rest of our family joined, we went there once again. The food is delicious! You have to try the mussels in wine, grilled octopus and shrimps in salt! This is also a perfect spot to grab some cocktails (beautiful view).
Mumbai Masala (Av. de las Playas, 15, 35510 Puerto del Carmen, Las Palmas, Spain)
This restaurant serves Indian cuisine, and it was soooo good. We either dined at the restaurant or took a takeaway. It was so good that we had it almost every day for 7 days! Unfortunately, I don't have any photos from this restaurant, but everything was served beautifully, and the staff was very polite and friendly.
Blue 17 Roof Top Restuarant and Bar (35500 Arrecife, Las Palmas, Spain)
The view from this restaurant is crazy! People were walking in just for the pictures. They serve the most delicious brownie! Really, I have never tried anything like this before. The cocktails were very sooo good! We haven't tried the food, but we saw that the burgers looked amazing and people enjoyed them.
Additional tips:
Rent a car! It is so worth having the car at least for 2 days. You will be able to find some hidden gems if you drive around outside of the main cities.
In the morning it is quite cold so make sure you have a light jacket in your suitcase. Other than that, it was warm.
